Define Trimming in PAM-STAMP 2025

After forming, we may need to remove part of the sheet. That is where trimming comes in. The curve describes the cut, but we also need to tell PAMSTAMP which side we want to keep.

It sounds obvious when looking at the part. The software still needs that selection.

Set up the trimming definition

Open the trimming controls for the intended operation. Select the trimming curve objects and the blank they apply to. Check the projection direction and reference frame against the geometry.

Use the curve display and a suitable view to see where the line reaches the sheet. A familiar-looking outline in the wrong frame is still the wrong cut.

Choose a point clearly inside the kept area

Select the kept-zone location away from the trim line. Then inspect the result of the definition: the intended region should remain, and holes or separate contours should behave as expected.

There is a useful 2025-specific message here. If the selected kept-zone element lies on the trim line, the release notes report the error A solid element defining kept zone(s) is cut. Select the kept zone again in a clear interior region.

Don’t try to solve that selection error by changing unrelated material or force settings. The message is pointing to the cut definition.

Where does trimming happen in the sequence?

Open the generated stages and see where the trimming action belongs. Depending on the workflow, it can be associated with the springback setup rather than appearing exactly where you expected from the editor layout.

That order matters when comparing shapes. An end-of-forming boundary and a trimmed, released boundary are not identical objects just because both belong to the same blank.

After computation, show the trimmed mesh and look around the whole boundary, including holes. Keep that view for your screenshot.

Next is springback. We will look at what happens when the forming loads and constraints are released, using the state actually passed forward by this sequence.
