We have the outline. Now we need the actual blank mesh. In this post I am using a surface blank; its thickness will be assigned as a property in the next post.
Open Blank Editor and select or create the blank for your exercise. If you already imported a complete sheet mesh, read the last section before generating another one over it.
Create it from the curves
On the Definition page, choose Outline and select the object containing the planar outline curves. Include the holes that belong to the sheet.
Use the selector to see exactly which curves you have included. A model with several outlines, trim curves and construction lines can make this less obvious than it first appears.
Enter the initial mesh size for your exercise and apply the definition. A meshed outline curve is still an outline; it is not the same input as a complete sheet mesh.
Look at the outline and mesh together
Hide the tools and press W to display the elements. Follow the outer boundary and then each hole. Do they match the intended shape? Pay particular attention near guides and locator pins.
Here is why I am spending time on the starting edge: adaptive refinement later in the run works from the existing mesh. It cannot recover a CAD boundary that the initial mesh never represented properly.
If needed, adjust outline refinement and apply again. We will go through refinement levels separately.
Already have the mesh?
Choose Already defined to keep an existing blank mesh instead of rebuilding it from the outline.
Also notice the apply toggles on the Definition and Material pages. If a change seems to do nothing, check the relevant toggle before entering the same value again.
Once the edges look right, continue to material and thickness. At the moment we have a shape; next we will tell PAMSTAMP which sheet it represents.
