In the first drawbead post, we used a uniform definition. Now suppose one part of the path needs different restraint. We can define zones instead of assigning one value everywhere.
Keep a copy of the uniform case so you can compare the change later.
Create the non-uniform definition
Select the bead in Drawbead Editor. On the Blank page, choose Non-uniform and use the pins and zones to divide the path.
Double-click the relevant Segment entry to edit its properties and forces. Different pin values can form a linear transition, so think about the join between regions as well as the values within them.
Look at the complete force distribution
Display the restraint and follow the whole curve, including its ends. Are the transitions where you wanted them? Is a zero-restraint region intentional?
Check automatic force updating and click Apply before selecting another bead. If using symmetry, the curve arrangement must suit the selected plane. Mirroring the force definition doesn’t repair an unrelated geometry arrangement.
What if you want the physical bead shape?
Choose Geometrical to modify the tool mesh and build the bead and groove. This changes the model representation; it is more than a different display of the equivalent bead.
On the Geometry page, inspect the tool carrying the bead, the end treatment and mesh parameters. The documented workflow requires the restraint display to be working before generating the geometry, so resolve problems there first.
The software keeps copies of original tools in the documented workflow. I would still keep the separate project baseline—it makes the comparison easier to follow.
After building, zoom into the bead and groove. Then look at the sheet mesh that will pass through them. Local refinement may be needed to resolve that bending.
When comparing equivalent and physical beads, state which representation and mesh settings were used. Otherwise, the result comparison leaves out a substantial part of what changed.
