Blank Positioning and Gravity Fit in PAM-STAMP 2025

Place a thin sheet over a lower tool and it may not stay perfectly flat. It can touch in some places and sag in others. That starting position affects what happens when the tools close.

This is why we have positioning and gravity-related stages. They are doing a job before the main forming step starts.

Which positioning route do you need?

Open Blank positioning in the Process Editor and look at the selected route. After applying, read the stages it creates in the tree.

Initial gravity is used for an initially flat blank on lower tools. Gravity fit also appears when a formed blank enters a later operation. Some workflows first locate a rigid representation of that blank and then perform an elastic fit.

These are different actions, so follow the actual sequence in your project rather than treating every positioning stage as the same thing.

Yes, gravity needs the correct units too

Standard gravity is 9.81 m/s², or 0.00981 mm/ms². Use the value consistent with your unit system and display the relevant frame to check the direction.

The chosen numerical method also matters. Explicit, implicit and advanced implicit routes have different requirements. Keep the method and compatible host specified for your exercise while learning this workflow.

See where the blank has settled

After computing the stage, open its last state and display the blank with the lower tools. Take a section if the top view hides the gap.

Does it sit where you expected? If there is an unexpected penetration or an implicit-fit problem, inspect the lower-tool mesh orientation and distorted elements as part of the investigation.

Read the stop message as well. Reaching an end time and satisfying a convergence condition don’t mean exactly the same thing.

One 2025 detail: the release notes report improved explicit-gravity compatibility with blank refinement, including cooling-on-tools use. I have covered that in the version post.

Keep the settled state when investigating a later closing problem. The clue may already be visible here.
